Istanbul Team at ESCC 2024, Advancing PED4ALL Goals

Apr 17, 2025 | Event, News

Greece, August 26-30, 2024 – The Istanbul team represented the Positive Energy Districts for All (PED4ALL) initiative at the International Conference on “Energy, Sustainability, and Climate Crisis” (ESCC 2024), held in the beautiful city of Corfu, Greece.

Our research paper, “Integrated Design Strategies for Sustainable Building Development: Optimizing Energy Efficiency from Micro to Macro Scales,” has been published in the conference’s prestigious Book of Proceedings. Sharing our findings with leading experts and practitioners in the fields of energy and sustainability was an incredible opportunity and an important milestone in our journey.

How This Research Aligns with PED4ALL

This study is a testament to PED4ALL’s mission of creating energy-positive districts. It showcases how energy efficiency can be optimized by seamlessly integrating three scales: urbanbuilding, and technology. By connecting these layers, we aim to create a holistic and data-driven foundation for transforming urban areas into sustainable, energy-positive spaces.

What Our Research Does

Our work focuses on developing innovative strategies to maximize energy efficiency and renewable energy integration across neighborhoods. Using advanced tools such as GIS, BIM, eQUEST, and PV Syst, we demonstrated:

  • Urban-Scale Integration: Harnessing GIS data to understand energy dynamics at a district level.
  • Building-Scale Optimization: Utilizing BIM to refine building performance and identify retrofit opportunities.
  • Technology Integration: Bridging the gap between design and renewable energy systems through Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), enabling seamless data exchange.

Why This Matters

This research directly supports the PED4ALL vision by:

  1. Empowering Decision-Making: Providing tools and methods to identify areas of high energy consumption and renewable energy potential.
  2. Driving Innovation: Demonstrating how technology and data can create interoperable, scalable solutions for urban sustainability.
  3. Advancing the Field: Offering replicable methods for integrating renewable energy systems into urban and building design processes.

We’re proud to be part of the PED4ALL initiative, working toward a more sustainable future. This research is just the beginning an exciting step toward creating energy-positive districts that inspire and empower communities worldwide. To read more, explore the full Book of Proceedings
